This report is based on a survey that asked HR professionals about organizational practices and HR staffing related to human resource functions within their organizations.  Findings related to critical HR functions, sourcing of HR responsibilities, assignment of responsibilities within HR departments, perceptions of HR roles and HR professionals’ experiences with mentoring are presented and analyzed by organization staff size and employment sector to identify differences in how HR is approached according to organization characteristics.  A hypothetical case study of HR mentoring is presented in the “HR Perspective” piece.
