The SHRM® Assurance of Learning Assessment Preparation Guidebook is a study tool to help HR students prepare to take the Assessment exam. It provides information about the exam itself, the 18 HR content areas, test-taking tips, sample test questions, and test item sources (e.g., HR textbooks, websites and articles).
An HR career path requires life-long learning. SHRM believes that the first step is to pursue a formal education in HR followed by proving mastery of HR content to demonstrate learning. The SHRM Assurance of Learning Assessment exam is the new universal benchmark to help students achieve this goal.
Assessment’s goals/purposes: 1) show that the student has acquired the knowledge required to enter the HR profession at the entry level; 2) provide HR students who pass the exam an achievement to help differentiate themselves in the job marketplace; 3) help universities meet their accrediting body’s assurance of learning requirements by showing their HR degree program teaches its students what it says it will teach them. Note: Effective February 2011, students are not eligible to take the Professional in Human Resources (PHR) certification offered by the HR Certification Institute.
